From childhood till now
I have grown up so far
To the phase not so mar
I had no choice but to allow

It has been a tough call
As I kept climbing up
Sometimes I had to jump
At times it led me to fall

I remember as a child
I used to learn to climb
Through the day, all the time
Up and down, feeling beguiled

Today I stand here still at top
Waiting to reach somewhere
After scouring here and there
I realize the fact that I can't stop

Still wondering what will come next
Placing my feet on the quiet earth
I surmise that in every birth
I have to keep on climbing the steps!

This poem is inspired from a photograph uploaded by a dear friend, Saru Singhal on Facebook.  Saru, hope you like it. You can visit her blog by clicking here.

  1. Beautiful poem, shows the life cycle, how we learn, adapt and hope for ourselves amidst our falls.

Thank you for a wonderful read. Third stanza is my favorite. It's so beautiful how we get inspired by simple things, truly amazing :)

    1. Thanks a lot Saru :) I feel so good that you liked it so much :)
And yeah also thanks to your photograph which inspired me to write this for you.

  2. Nice use of abba rhyming. Somehow makes the words seem enclosed within themselves. Like a flower bud! Hope you keep climbing the steps!

  3. So much depth in every line as it flows!! Reminds me of every moment when dad has encouraged me to keep walking, keep trying and never to give up! Its never the end actually, we have never reached fully, everytime, there is something yet to achieve!! Kudos...good work! keep writing!!

    1. Thanks Kriti :) ya it never ends. just we keep on achieving milestones. I am glad that you liked it.

'Welcome to Melbourne' a voice echoed as the plane landed at the Melbourne airport. There was a hustle and bustle as the passengers started removing their luggage from the cabin compartment. Pankhuri was delighted. She performed all the formalities of arrival, claimed her luggage, hired a taxi and left for the hotel. She had to stay in a hotel for first few days till all the formalities for her admission at the university were completed and the hostel allocated to her. She reached the hotel at around 10 in the morning. A blonde man with blue eyes, wearing a Grey suit who sat at the reception welcomed her. 'Welcome to the Melbourne Marriot, Ma'am. I wish this night stayed....

Cold breeze grazing my feet Maybe it's an act so folly But my heart skipped a beat Surrounded by sheer melancholy Your whispers echoing in my ears Its difficult to see with Eyes welling up with tears Heart aching in writhe Winds changed the direction again Waiting for this since quite long No more I can abstain Come let's dance to the song Beneath the open sky Beside you I laid Now don't say bye I wish this night stayed...
